The author's personal admiration/enthusiasm for thinkers amuses. It was like listening from a very well read veteran who had a deep interest and longing to assimilate and demystify Thought to his juniors.
The book as the author points out in the end is 'largely' inspired from Marvin Harris voluminous work on Anthropology. However, that doesn't cloud his personal opinion to objectively assess each thinker from their perspective.
In fact, an interesting aspect I of late, discovered is the author's attitude towards Thinkers. The author respects each Thinker in their right earnest in spite of their deficiencies. You may disagree with a Thinker, but that doesn't let you disrespect him. I think this is the attitude Social sciences should teach.
Besides the nuts and bolts of each school, to me the uniqueness of the book lies in the author's punch- an insight and assessment you can't ignore. This books enthuses you and keeps you thinking.
All said, I think this is the only saviour for UPSC Anthropological thought. Crisp, Concise, Insightful and above all suits the needs of the exam. It gave me a clarity and perspective in Thought, which two years of struggle couldn't.
