Description

The IAS Book of Essays – Part I invites the reader to approach the UPSC Civil Services Essay paper not as a mechanical exercise, but as a disciplined conversation with ideas. This volume lays the foundation for clear, structured, and thoughtful essay writing by engaging with themes drawn from history, ethics, society, science, and human experience.

Rather than offering shortcuts or templates, the book demonstrates how depth of understanding, clarity of expression, and coherence of thought can come together to produce writing that is both rigorous and alive. Each essay models how ideas can be explored with balance, structure, and intellectual honesty.

Designed for serious aspirants and reflective readers alike, this book is not merely a guide for an examination. It is a starting point for a longer intellectual journey, where essays become exercises in understanding the world and one’s place within it.

About the Author

Vinod Krishtacharya Kadakol is a philosopher-writer and an independent researcher in theoretical physics, working on questions at the foundations of reality, including ideas related to superstring theory. Trained in physics, he also walked the path of public service, qualifying in the Civil Services Preliminary and Main examinations and appearing for the Personality Test.

Deeply influenced by the inquiries of Jiddu Krishnamurthy and U. G. Krishnamurthy, he worked as a mentor in physics and mathematics at Jiddu Krishnamurthy’s Valley School and later founded and edited a monthly Kannada magazine for competitive examinations. In addition to his English works, he has authored several books in Kannada, including the widely used Genius IAS Handbook, and has written short stories and poems.

He is also known to readers by the pen-identity “IAS Monk,” and continues to write at the meeting ground of science, philosophy, literature, and ethical life.
