Description

This Volume no. 3 continues with the English narration of the Story of Lord Ram as described in the devotional classic known as ‘Ram Charit Manas’ written by Goswami Tulsidas, from where we had left it in volume no. 2, i.e. Doha no. 239.
The entire Book ‘Ram Charit Manas’ is divided into 7 Cantos, named Baal Kand, Ayodhya Kand, Aranya Kand, Kishkindha Kand, Sundar Kand, Lanka Kand, and Uttar Kand.
Since my English rendering of this Holy Book is a voluminous one, it is divided into many volumes. The present volume no. 3 contains Part 3 of Canto 1, known as the ‘Baal Kand’ of Ram Charit Manas. It covers the Text from Chaupai line no. 1 that precedes Doha no. 240—to Sortha (a type of Doha) no. 361, which brings us to the end of Canto 1, Baal Kand.
The topics covered in this volume 3 are the following: (i) The Bow-Breaking ceremony; Lord Ram easily breaks the formidable Bow; Sita puts the victory garland around Lord Ram’s neck; (ii) Revolt by assembled competitors; arrival of angry sage Parashuram; the heated verbal spat between the sage and Laxman; the sage finally realizing the divinity of Lord Ram; the sage’s repentance; (iii) The arrival of king Dasrath; the marriage of Lord Ram with Sita; his three brothers also get simultaneously married to three princesses of the kingdom of Janakpur in the same venue; the celebrations; lavish hospitality for the groom’s party; (iv) Departure of the marriage party from Janakpur to proceed home to the kingdom of Ayodhya; arrival at Ayodhya; the four brothers and their brides enter their palace; rituals, rejoicing and celebrations in the city; warm farewell to sage Vishwamitra.
Our Book contains the Original Text of Ram Charit Manas followed by Roman Transliteration of the verses, and then a comprehensive and analytical narrative of the Text in English, explaining it thoroughly and from different perspectives verse-by-verse, aided by detailed notes and references.

The other volumes that follow in this series will carry on with the magnificent narrative of Ram Charit Manas in a step-wise manner.
