Maitreya grew from years of studying the Dharma and the prophecies of the coming of Maitreya. I found myself drawn not only to the promise of a saviour, but also to the long and often painful road that makes such a promise necessary. I kept asking: What happens when compassion fades, when greed becomes the common language, when the sacred is reduced to a tool for power? And most urgently — what becomes of those few who still guard the flame when the night grows cold? This story is part of a larger journey — one that begins in shadow, with the fading of Dharma across centuries, with a prophecy waiting in silence, and with a single act of preservation in the face of ruin. Like the lotus of the teaching, it must rise from the mud. This work is not a historical record, nor a sermon. It is fiction, but it is rooted in scripture, legend, and human experience. Every realm described, every relic named, and every vow spoken by the characters has been shaped by years of study and deep respect for the traditions they come from. My aim has been to weave the richness of ancient worlds with the immediacy of lived emotion, so that you may walk among monks and kings, cross the thresholds of both heaven and shadow, and still feel the ground beneath your feet. I offer this story with humility, in the hope that somewhere within it, you will not only meet these characters, but also catch a glimpse of your own journey — and perhaps a quiet reminder of the Friend of the World who waits for us to remember how to be friends.
