Powerful story

Light Inspired is a powerful story. It applies a multidimensional approach to the tale of a boy who survived all odds. Without any censor, the book comes alive with direct reckoning of dichotomies in a pluralistic society. It is a work of a literary genius.
Everyone should read it.

The lines stay with you long after

I teach creative writing and like to read new writers. I have read another book by the same author and this book, Light Inspired is, surprisingly a stark contrast.
It is worth reading and I am planning to read out excerpts from its pages to my students in the coming session. Let’s see what they have to say …

A masterfully written book

"Light Inspired" masterfully intertwines biography and fiction to craft a compelling motivational narrative. The protagonist's journey from adversity to triumph is both inspiring and relatable, with vivid storytelling that captures the essence of perseverance. The novel blends real-life struggles with fictional elements to highlight universal truths about determination and hope. This book is not just a story but a guide for anyone seeking motivation to overcome life's challenges. It is a must-read for those in need of a reminder that resilience can lead to extraordinary achievements.

Life of a reformer

The book is well crafted with a mix of history geography and science. Good life lessons to boot. I also love the way the author (his didi) contrasts herself from Deepu at every stage. Strongly recommend Light Inspired

A deeply psychological probe

Naturally when you have read about the man in the newspapers, what's in the book that's still to be known?
With that on my mind, I bought the book, curiosity mounting because of the other reviews. And am I glad...
I was expecting to read about Jhamuria and the adivasis and the school where Deep Narayan works. But no. That's not the focus of the story.
It's more of a back story, almost anecdotal, going deep into the psychology part. How trauma translates into care, want develops enterprise, cheating brings about wisdom, jealousy transforms into admiration...
The style of narration is vastly different from those of any Indian authors I have read so far. It nearly matches the style of a couple of western writers. Maybe she has developed this style to minimize the context and expand on the ironies. It is after all a writer's prerogative to write in the way she wishes to express herself. I think this style will appeal to many other readers.

A delightful read.. Highly recommended

The novel starts from the generation of the hero's grandparents. Out of the 7 chapters, the last two are about Deepu's achievements. This is an eye opener for all those who know him.

The novel is fun to read. The language is less ornate and more of a cheerful delivery of matter of fact reality. It's didactic and filled with tongue-in-cheek commentary on the social issues that are highlighted.

The use of metaphor is unique. The line such as 'discotheque for the monkeys' comes across as a pithy remark, delivering the whole picture in the fewest of words. Another metaphor, that of a "passenger in the back seat" used for politicians is very unique.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
