Ashesh Chaitanya Maharaj Ji was born in the earlier part of the twentieth century in Kolkata. Right since his childhood he was an all-rounder excelling in studies, sports, music and at the same time not attracted to worldly things and pleasures. He received spiritual initiation (Mantra Diksha) from the second president of Ramakrishna Math and Mission Rev. Swami Shivananda ji, also known as Mahapurush Maharaj. Ashesh Maharaj renounced the world at the age of seventeen and joined the Ramakrishna order in the year 1929, receiving initiation into Brahmacharya from Mahapurush Maharaj. Thereafter Ashesh Maharaj served at various centres of Ramakrishna Math and Mission all over India for twelve years before proceeding to the Himalayas for solitary tapasya. He was at Kashmir from 1941 to 1946. At the direction of a very revered monk he then moved to Ahmedabad to manage a socio-spiritual institution and continued there till 1951. Having thus acquired the long experience of twenty four years in various angles of spirituality, he founded Sarvangi Vikas Sangha with its headquarters at Kullu, Himalayas on 14th March 1951. The aim of the Sangha is to train its members towards a divine life through a scientific, systematic, graded practice system that leads to all round development of the individual.
