Description
This was not a journey through the high mountain passes. This was a journey through the valleys of my mind. What use is overcoming a thousand hardships, when one's own mind is left untamed? My map would be The 37 Bodhisattva Practices, a short scripture written in ancient Tibet. A guidebook to freeing ourselves from anger, ego, greed... And to finding the jewels that lie dormant within, of love awareness, and wisdom. I would be putting my whole being to applying its words, I would test them with my life. Let's see what will happen to my body and mind? The walk would be perilous and breathtakingly remote Yet aren't we all on a similar journey between birth and death?
Ben Viatte was born in a cozy Switzerland setting and lovingly tended by a loving family. It seemed he had everything… yet something was also missing. Something about the deeper questions that nothing from the outside world could hope to answer: birth, old age, love, loss of loved ones, ego, impermanence, happiness, death...
At his 24th year a dream shook his being, in which these questions were dramatically brought to the surface. After lying in the dark on a stone floor, the troubling void was put to an end by a barefoot monk walking calmly, peace in every step, headed eastwards...
Ben assumed the message was clear enough, and the next morning he started packing his things to undertake a journey on foot to the Indian Himalayas. After completing his first journey he started doing pilgrimages within India, of which he records every detail in tiny handwritten journals.
But does any outer accomplishment really matter? Don't we all know the real journey is inwards? And India's the motherland of such a marking spiritual culture that Ben's inner journey has only begun.
