You finally burst,
But it's not an explosion,
You pick up the phone and you cry and you cry.
But you're too afraid to dial the number just yet.
Then,
You walk into a bookstore
Your heart held by someone who doesn’t know
How to care for it,
You try rebuilding it again,
So you call your mom
And ask : “Ma”
And that is all she needs to know.
That you need the cool summer breeze after a hot evening,
The rain after long dry months,
The chocolate from your favourite bakery,
A warm cup of chai in your home’s verandah,
And you need the ingredients of a heart,
And she offers you her own,
But you tell her you need to
make a new one that is all yours,
With all the things that will make it beat just the right way.
So she tells you how:
“A bit of you,
A bit of me,
And us,
Come home, it’s been a long time, beta”
A collection of poems turning into a story about making a new heart that is all yours, depression and how love can try but not fix everything, only you can.
