Between the Love and Loss
Pieces of My Heart That You Left begins when Bisma Mohammad is thirteen the age of stolen glances, conversations, and dreams that seem too beautiful to end. That first love grows alongside her, and when it ends, it leaves more than silence behind.
This poetry collection gathers what remained: the sweetness of loving for the first time, the patience of waiting, the effort of forgiving, and the act of pretending to be okay while something inside slowly falls apart.
Written in Srinagar by a radiographic technologist who spends her days looking beneath the surface, these poems are the unseen images of a heart. They are not a plea for return, nor a celebration of heartbreak. They are an honest record of loving deeply, losing slowly, and discovering a life on the other side of loss.
It is about remembering without breaking, and gathering every piece to build a heart that belongs to her again.
Bisma Mohammad is a Radiographic Technologist by profession, with a Master’s degree in Psychology, and a writer whose relationship with poetry began at the age of thirteen.
Hailing from the beautiful valley of Srinagar, Kashmir, Bisma has always been drawn to emotions that often remain unspoken: feelings hidden behind silence, stories carried quietly in the heart, and memories that words sometimes struggle to explain.
She began writing poetry at thirteen, when emotions were new, intense, and innocent. What began as a private way to express feelings gradually became a lifelong relationship with words. Over the years, her poetry has appeared in multiple anthologies, letting her share fragments of her writing with readers beyond her own pages.
Her background in psychology has further deepened her understanding of human emotions, relationships, attachment, heartbreak, healing, and the many layers of the human mind. Perhaps that is why her writing often explores not only what we feel, but also why we feel it.
Alongside her professional journey as a Radiographic Technologist and her academic journey in Psychology, Bisma continued to write, quietly collecting poems, memories,
emotions, and pieces of a story that had been growing within her for years.
Pieces of My Heart That You Left marks her debut as a solo author.
The inspiration behind this collection is deeply personal: a man Bisma has loved for many years, since age thirteen. He became a significant part of her growing years, her memories, and the emotional landscape that eventually found its way onto these pages.
Yet this book is not merely a collection written about someone.
It is a collection written from something a love that shaped her, a journey that changed her, and emotions that remained long after many words had been left unsaid.
For Bisma, poetry became a place where memories could breathe, where unanswered questions could become verses, and where the pieces of a complicated love could finally find a home.
This is her debut book, but it continues a journey that began with a thirteen-year-old girl putting her feelings into words.
And perhaps, after all these years, those words have finally found their way to you.
