"We Are One Cosmic Being is written for the benefit of all humanity and is a discourse of the goals and values it has universally pursued and still ardently wants to pursue. At an even higher level, the book is about the Spirit and our Cosmos, written by Daksha Shukla, a denizen of the Cosmos. The book deals with almost every matter of lasting value essential to the common well-being of all. One can see that it all emerges as the result of intense personal study and thinking on the part of the author. We are One Cosmic Being should serve as a guide, especially to those of us who have not been able to find our way about in the midst of the problems of our contemporary world. It should give us the much needed hope that we can make perfect sense of our own lives, and also make the world a much better place for all of us to live in. " -- Prof. Srinivasa Rao, formerly Professor and Chairman of the Department of Philosophy Bangalore University, Bangalore, India.
Science and spirituality have a symbiotic relationship, and share the same goal—to explore and understand the truth of our existence. Science informs us about the nature of our universe, including our body and mind. And, when that knowledge inspires us to expand our view of who we are, and adopt an all-embracing and reverential attitude towards life and the world in general, it becomes a spiritual journey.
The practice of spirituality is really our mind’s attempt to maintain its inner balance, well-being, and bolster our self-confidence and efficiency in navigating the challenges of daily life by improving the texture and quality of our thoughts. It is a search for happiness, and freedom from the unfulfilling life of narrow identities, petty prejudices and inner conflicts so that we may more fully enjoy our awesome Earthly journey.
If you want a comprehensive introduction to Hindu philosophy (which is actually a misnomer; the philosophy of Sanatana Dharma is the correct terminology), then this is THE book for you. It gives the philosophical knowledge in simple terms, citing the different textual sources, as well as the historical social context, which gives a richer understanding.
I personally struggled to clearly comprehend the teachings before reading this book because there are so many texts out there (Vedas, Upanishads, etc.) making it difficult to know where to start and how to proceed, however I have gained so much clarity after reading this one book that now when I go to approach the texts everything fits together and is consistent! Very clarifying.
Also really appreciate how the author goes out of her way to show the commonalities with the various theistic religions and atheistic wisdom.
