As I understand, hardly any university in our country (India) teach surface science in even the post-graduation level. The students joining any university or research institute to undertake the field of surface science as their carrier, face immense difficulty in understanding both the theory and practical application of different surface analytical techniques in the absence of simplified books for beginners.

About the Author

Born on 1st August 1950, Dr. B.R.Chakraborty, completed his graduation in Physics (honours) from the St.Xavier’s College, Kolkata in 1969. He completed his M.Sc. (Physics) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 1972 and joined the most famous and oldest research institute of the country, viz. Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science for his Ph.D. After completing his Ph.D in semiconductor Physics he joined the prestigious National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi as a scientific personnel in 1976 and continued his complete carrier of research in the same organization till 2010 and superannuated as Chief Scientist and Head of Material Characterization division. After his superannuation, he continued as an Emeritus Scientist till 2015.
