Clinical Cases & Learning Clinics in Community Medicine — Book 1 is a case-based companion for the doctor who works where most of India's patients are first seen: the sub-centre, the Ayushman Arogya Mandir, the PHC, the CHC and the district hospital OPD.
Its 47 cases cover communicable diseases — from typhoid, malaria, tuberculosis and dengue to rabies, leprosy, scrub typhus, brucellosis and COVID-19 — and non-communicable conditions including hypertension, diabetes, heart attack, stroke, COPD, oral and cervical cancer, anaemia, severe acute malnutrition, fluorosis, silicosis, depression, road traffic injury, snakebite, heat stroke and sickle cell disease.
Each case is written as a dialogue between Teacher and Learner, with deliberately imperfect answers that are corrected and explained. Every case combines bedside clinical reasoning — differential diagnosis and the "why" behind the disease — with the public health response: surveillance and notification, national health programmes, relevant laws, and prevention at the population level. Set in Rajasthan and North India, the cases reflect the diseases, health system and realities that a young doctor in this region will actually meet.
Written for interns, Medical Officers and Community Medicine residents; useful for MBBS students during clinical postings and examinations. Full-colour edition.
