Gender-Based Violence (GBV) refers to harmful acts
that are directed at an individual based on their gender. It
encompasses various forms of violence, such as physical,
sexual, psychological, and economic abuse, which
disproportionately affect women and girls but can also
affect men and boys, especially in certain contexts.

About the Author

Dr. Snigdharani Behera is currently serving as a faculty member in the School
of Women's Studies at Utkal University, Vani Vihar, Bhubaneswar. She holds a
Master’s degree in Women’s Studies from Utkal University and earned her
M.Phil from Berhampur University. She was awarded a Ph.D. by Utkal
University for her research in the field.
With over 13 years of professional experience, Dr. Behera has contributed
significantly to academia and development work. She began her academic
career as a Research Associate under the UGC scheme at the School of
Women’s Studies, Utkal University. Her professional journey also includes roles
in public administration, having served as an Additional Program Officer (APO)
with the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) in Dhenkanal and
Kendrapara (Rajkanika Block). Additionally, she has worked as a faculty
member at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS).
Dr. Behera has an impressive record of research and publication. She has
authored one book and co-edited three volumes. Her scholarly work includes
articles published in national, international, and Scopus-indexed journals. She
has actively presented her research at various national and international
seminars and conferences, including a presentation at the Indian Association
of Women’s Studies (IAWS) held at IDSK, Kolkata.
A dedicated mentor, Dr. Behera has supervised more than 25 postgraduate
dissertations. Beyond academia, she has been associated with social
development through her involvement with the NGO Evergreen Forum. She is
also a life member of the Indian Association of Women’s Studies (IAWS).
