Ashesh Chaitanya Maharaj ji was born in the earlier part of the twentieth century in a prosperous family of Kolkata. Right since childhood he was an all-rounder and excelled in studies, sports, music etc. and also had strong spiritual leanings. He had the good fortune of receiving the blessings in person of Shri Ma Saradamani Devi. Ashesh Maharaj received initiation from the second President of Shri Ramakrishna Mission Swami Shivananda ji, also known as Mahapurush Maharaj. Ashesh Maharaj renunciated the world at the age of 17 and was inducted into Brahmacharya by Mahapurush Maharaj. He served Ramakrishna Math and Mission at its various centres all over India for twelve years and then chose to go to the Himalayas for solitary tapasya. Ashesh Maharaj spent six years in and around Kashmir in tapasya and returned to Ahmedabad at the request of a senior monk to manage a large socio-spiritual organisation. He was at Ahmedabad from 1946 to 1951 and then again moved to the Himalayas, this time at Kullu, to start Sarvangi Vikas Sangha that aimed at all-round development of individuals based on the fundamental Vedic principles and as propounded by Shri Ramakrishna Paramahansa and Swami Vivekananda ji. The members have to take vows annually to follow certain principles in a graded way and are promoted to higher categories based on their performance, the ultimate goal being building a Divine Character that is beneficient to self and others.
