શ્રી પોપટલાલ પંચાલ માત્ર લેખક નથી. એક નીવડેલા ઉત્તમ શિક્ષક છે. કવિતાઓ પણ રચે છે અને ભાવવાહી કંઠે ગાય પણ છે. અભ્યાસી વક્તા તરીકે પણ સુખ્યાત છે. એમની કલમ કવિતા, નાટક, નવલિકા, નવલકથા, હાસ્યલેખો કે ચિંતનાત્મક લેખો સૌમાં એક સરખી રીતે વિહાર કરી શકે છે. ગુજરાતી સાહિત્ય અકાદમીનાં અનેક પારિતોષિકો તેમનાં વિવિધ લેખન માટે તેમને પ્રાપ્ત થઈ ચૂક્યાં છે.
વિષયોમાં પણ અનંત વૈવિધ્ય છે. ફાટેલાં કપડાં હોય કે નામ પાડવાનું કામ હોય, ન ભણવામાં નવ ગુણ હોય કે અનોખું અર્થશાસ્ત્ર હોય, ગાંધીજી સ્વપ્નામાં આવે કે નારદજી પૃથ્વીપર્યટન કરવા નીકળે, સાત વારની વાત હોય કે ચારસો વરસ જીવવાના ખ્યાલ હોય, મોટા થવાની કળા હોય કે દુ:ખ રડવાનું સુખ હોય કે ભારતદર્શન જેવી “આહ ઇન્ડિયા, વાહ ઇન્ડિયા'ની અષ્ટપદી હોય–આ હસતા ફિલસૂફ સૌમાં સરળતાથી સહેલ કરાવી શકે છે એ તેમની વિરલ સિદ્ધિ છે.

Shree Popatlal is a maths teacher by profession. He graduated with Masters in Gujarati and Sanskrit. He emigrated from Gujarat to Tanzania in the Fifties. A pious family man with varied interests in poetry, culture, drama, sports, games, and religious teachings. A playwright, journalist, actor, photographer, and an author of several books mostly humorous. He was a close friend to the late Doctor Shree Ram Lagoo (Bolywood) who he shared acting and drama interests. Winner of many literary awards in East Africa and London. A talented man. A meticulous cook narrated recipes for the family usage of pickles and dishes.
