Description

Admissions to entry-level classes in Delhi start in the month of December every year and the process completes by the end of March. Unlike most other cities in India, Delhi has a centralized government body called the Directorate of Education (DOE), which monitors the whole admission process. All the schools need to roll out their admission forms from a specific date (set by the DOE) and accept all the forms along with photocopies of the necessary documents before a certain date (again set by the DOE). Different schools offer different methods of form distribution & collection, ranging from online to offline. Also, different schools might have a different time for distribution & collection of the admission form. After the form submission date passes, the schools start their evaluation stage, wherein they allocate points to each applicant. The DOE has set certain parameters and schools can judge the applicants only around these set parameters. Parameters include criteria like Distance from home to school, Girl child applicant, Sibling studying in the school etc. Every applicant is allocated points out of 100. The children receiving more points than the cut-off (set by the school) get direct admission to the school and can secure a seat by paying the fee. The children who get a score equal to the cut-off score of the school are eligible for a second list and participate in a lucky draw for the remaining number of seats. The children who fall short of the cut-off score need to try their luck in some other school. The schools bring out multiple lists over a period of two months. As and when admissions are done, parents are required to block the seat by paying a certain amount or the seats are given away to other applicants.

But are the admissions to Delhi schools as simple as they appear? Not really!

This was just an overview of the whole admission process in Delhi. There is a lot more to discover. This book is an effort to cover each and every aspect regarding Delhi school admissions, from explaining why the admissions in Delhi are such a big mess to how you as a parent could tackle this process with grace. We all know that precautions are better than cure. This book should serve as a precautionary measure in your lives to the school admission process. A thorough read will probably make you feel confident and prepare you to take the whole process by storm.
