We have intentionally covered a lot of ground throughout this book and a holistic view has been taken of achieving excellence. We have explored important themes such as how to define the overall direction for your hotel, enhance leadership effectiveness, engage your employees and captivate your customers. Not all of the content will have been new to you, but hopefully you will have gained fresh insights into these critical issues. The real work starts now, in the sense that, if you want to derive any benefits from the book, then you will need to take concerted action to apply the concepts at your hotel in future. Naturally, what you need or indeed decide to do will depend on where you are currently as a business, but you should be proactive in making changes based on your new insights. Obviously, you cannot expect to see results overnight, but unless you lay the groundwork now, you won’t ever see any. This final section is intended to support you as you define and implement measures in relation to the four themes. Each of the four themes is briefly summarized and then an action checklist is provided to guide you as to actions you might take in your hotel. A simple diagnostic is also included for each theme which will help you, at some point in the future, to gauge how well you are progressing.
