India's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 represents the most sweeping restructuring of the
country's educational architecture since the Kothari Commission of 1964–66. At the heart of this
transformation lies a bold architectural innovation: the Multidisciplinary Education and Research
University (MERU). A proposed network of thirtyfive publicly funded institutions designed to
match the standing of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of
Management (IIMs) while shattering the disciplinary silos that have long characterised Indian
higher education.
