This book is about an ethnic group called Lai in Manipur. Lai is one of the earliest ethnic settled in the history of Manipur. Pakhangba, the first king of Manipur belonged to Lai ethnic. In the later part of Manipur, the name Lai has completely disappeared and this group has never been recognized as an ethnic group. Andro and Sengmai of Manipur belong to Lai ethnic.

About the Authors

Dinachandra Chingakham
Born at Andro village and attended Andro High School, then RDS School Palace Compound Imphal and then at C.C. Higher Secondary School. After B. Sc. and M.A (Geography) from the University of Delhi, he moved to Thailand. He attended Ramkhamhaeng University for Graduate Diploma in Education. He also completed M. Ed from Rangsit University, Thailand. While writing this book he is doing research for Ed. D from Rangsit University. He has spent about 16-17 years teaching at schools and university in Cambodia, Thailand. He traveled in different Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and Hong-Kong for cultural observation and education-related fields. His other works were about an investigation in The Effect of Internet-Based Homework in Learning English; and a book Finding the Roots: Andro and Sengmai Community. He lives in Thailand.

Biren Khwairakpam
He was born at Awang Sengmai of Manipur and he grew up attending all the cultural functions in his own community. Sensing that almost all the traditional cultural elements are going to be replaced by the newly engulfing cultures of outsiders, he wants to preserve and at least keep as record even if the tradition and culture is replaced by a new wave of culture, he started setting the first pencil stroke to begin the journey of writing this book. He was an engineer by profession and because of his background, he wants to interpret and link culture and tradition and their meaning to scientific interpretation. His other work is Finding the Roots: Andro and Sengmai Community” as co-writer. He lives with his wife Kh. Subadani.
