Dr Pranjal Borah is a prominent film critic and a member of FIPRESCI India (the India
Chapter of the International Federation of Film Critics). A multiple award-winning film critic,
he received the State Best Film Critic award from the Directorate of Cultural Affairs under the
Government of Assam in 2018 and the Prag Cine Award for Best Film Critic of North East in
2017. He is a regular contributor to "E-Cineindia," the official journal for FIPRESCI's India
Chapter and ‘The Assamese Tribune’. He is actively involved in the film society movement in
Assam and currently serves as the joint secretary of the Assam Film Society, based in Jorhat.
He has curated film festivals, served on juries for various film competitions and festivals, and
contributes to shaping film culture through his writings, research, and activism. He has also
been a resource person for film appreciation courses. He holds a PhD in film studies from
Dibrugarh University. An Associate Professor in the Department of English at Dikhowmukh
College, Sivasagar, Assam, he also visits several universities and colleges as Guest Faculty in
Film Studies.
