Women's Medicine
Diagnosis and Treatment of Women's Diseases
Infectious diseases - Cancer - Pregnancy and Childbirth
The morphology and physiology of the vulva and vagina changes throughout life. The most prominent changes are related to puberty, menstrual cycle, pregnancy and menopause. The trend of early puberty has been observed in developed western countries. In women of reproductive age, the vaginal mucosa responds to the steroid hormone cycle and exhibits maximum thickness and intracellular glycogen content in the middle of the cycle. The thickness of the skin of the vulva remains unchanged, but changes related to the menstrual cycle occur in ortho and parakeratosis at the cytological level.
