Hema Rao is a freelance children’s content writer/editor. After completing her MA (Economics) from the Delhi School of Economics, she began her career as an Economics lecturer in Indraprastha College for Women, Delhi University (1973-1981). She quit this job for personal reasons and began writing short stories and science/ environment articles for children in 1990.

Her stories have won prizes in the Children’s Writers Competitions held periodically by Children’s Book Trust and these have been published in their collections of short stories. Navneet Publications published The Noisy Ghost In the Attic and Other Stories while Learner’s Press published four environment story books titled Don’t Pester Them!, Earth’s Concern, Oil Turmoil, and The Desert Blooms. Her stories have been published in popular Indian children’s magazines (Target, Gokulam, Children’s Digest, The Children’s Magazine, Children’s Tree and Kids&You). Some stories are on websites such as dimdima.com and pitara.com. She has also been a copy editor for manuscripts at PRISM publishing house (Bangalore) and at SR Nova Pvt. Ltd (Bangalore), and a freelance content writer for school textbooks.
