Jain Makil is an author whose writing is deeply shaped by the cross-cultural experience of migration and the search for identity. Born the second son to M.P. Joseph and Leelamma Joseph Makil in a close-knit village in Kerala, India, he carried the rich traditions and values of his upbringing when he migrated to the United States in 1996. The profound, often complex reality of building a life in a foreign land—and the lingering, bittersweet struggle of finding true roots in a new world—serves as the foundational inspiration for his literary work.

His novel, The Rootless (വേരറ്റവർ), is a poignant exploration of displacement, resilience, and the fragile connections that bind people across borders. Written across 17 chapters, the work is being published in both English and Malayalam to bridge communities and share this universal human experience with the widest possible audience. Today, Jain continues to write from his home in the United States, drawing on his personal history to craft narratives that give voice to the global diaspora.
