Ketaki Desai , known as Katie to her friends, is quintessential nine year old girl, excited about small things in life. This is the story of her adventures and misadventures, her mistakes and realizations, her fears and bravado, her shortcomings and nobility, her anger and compassion and in summary this is how Katie, a middle class child in today’s urban India, experiences life. She dreams of being Hero and teams up with friends to raise hell in school and at the neighborhood.
Having lost her mother early in life , her father is the best friend she has got in this world. She treats him like a friend and he also shares his feelings with her. Katie is a naughty child and keeps herself involved in mischievous activities at school as well as home. Katie wants to do many things, most of those end up creating trouble for others.
She finds her best friend at school. Katie and Jenny become best friends. They love each other and all they want in life to spend rest of their lives having fun together. There is only one more thing that Katie wants almost as much as she wants Jenny…. That is to meet her mother. She knows it is not possible and she feels that she can give away her most prized possession to get to see her mother just once.
Katie experiences traumatic and dangerous events and it completely changes her view and approach towards life. Katie is a mentally strong girl and stands by the people she loves at the time of the need. Katie gets in and out of trouble while keeping her belief strong and herself intact.
