Sericulture is an important agro-based industry that provides employment and income to
millions of rural households worldwide. The productivity and profitability of sericulture
largely depend on the quality of mulberry leaves, which serve as the sole food source for the
silkworm, Bombyx mori. Sustainable nutrient management practices are increasingly gaining
importance due to the environmental concerns associated with excessive use of chemical
fertilizers. Among various organic inputs, vermicompost has emerged as an eco-friendly and
nutrient-rich organic manure capable of improving soil health, mulberry productivity, and
silkworm performance.
