Travel back to the magnificent city of Alexandria in 48 BCE, a place filled with bustling markets, sailing ships, scholars, travelers, and one of the ancient world's greatest centers of learning—the Library of Alexandria.

Thirteen-year-old Theo is the son of a scroll maker and dreams of becoming a scholar. One evening, while delivering scrolls to the library, he notices a frightened old scholar secretly carrying a small wooden box. Before Theo can ask questions, soldiers suddenly enter the library.

The scholar entrusts the mysterious box to Theo and gives him one urgent instruction: take it to the great Lighthouse of Alexandria.
