As a second-year undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication Engineering at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, I had the opportunity to undergo a one-month internship at NPP, Kalpakkam. The internship provided me with valuable exposure to the practical applications of embedded systems and microcontrollers in the nuclear power sector.
During this internship, I was introduced to the fundamentals of the ATmega328P microcontroller and its peripherals through hands-on programming and hardware interfacing. The sessions covered essential concepts such as digital input/output operations, LED interfacing, push button control, external interrupts, Analog-to-Digital Conversion (ADC), and interrupt-driven ADC techniques using register-level programming. Along with learning these concepts, I also gained an understanding of how embedded systems are applied in industrial environments, including areas related to monitoring, control, and automation in nuclear facilities.
This book has been prepared as a compilation of the experiments and concepts covered during the internship. Each chapter presents the objective, theory, hardware requirements, register descriptions, circuit diagrams, detailed code explanations, and results to help readers understand the implementation of various embedded system applications in a structured manner.
The primary objective of this book is to serve as a simple reference for students and beginners who wish to understand the basics of embedded systems through practical examples. I hope that the explanations provided will make the concepts easier to understand and encourage readers to explore the fascinating field of embedded systems further.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my internship mentor, *Mr. Sitangshu Sekhar Biswas*, for his invaluable guidance and support throughout the internship. I also thank Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University for encouraging practical exposure through internships.
