Part 2 of the DGCA RTR(A) examination is spoken, not written. You are given a flight scenario and must respond in real time with correct radiotelephony phraseology, including any exigency the examiner introduces. This guide is built to train exactly that.
Every procedure and phrase is based on MATS AAI Edition 7.0, ICAO Doc 4444, ICAO Annex 10 Volume II and DGCA CAR Section 7, Series G, Part VI.
Inside:
- 11 chapters covering definitions and abbreviations and core R/T fundamentals (readback, phonetic alphabet, numbers, standard words and phrases, callsigns).
- Phase-by-phase chapters that follow a flight from start to finish: Parked, Taxi, Departure, En-route and Arrival, with the exact calls expected at each stage.
- A full Emergency Phase chapter on MAYDAY and PAN PAN calls, including RVSM contingency.
- An exam-technique chapter showing how the phases join into one continuous scenario.
- A practice scenario bank of 11 complete scenarios, each covering different exigencies.
- Appendices A-B: an RVSM contingency quick reference and a MAYDAY / PAN PAN ready reckoner.
- R/T drills throughout for practising out loud.
Written by Wing Commander Venugopal Kozhipurath (Retd), a former IAF Air Traffic Control Officer and founder of The RTR Coach (thertrcoach.com).
Note: Part 2 is meant for candidates who have cleared RTR(A) Part 1 or fall in an exempted category.
