Genealogy of the author's family can be traced back to the 10th century A.D. His earliest known ancestor, Purushottama Dutta of Bharadvaja gotra was the highly respected leader of the five Kshatriya clans, that migrated along with five Brahmin clans, from Kannauj in North India to Gauda in Bengal. They came at the invitation of the legendary king Adisura. The king later assigned them villages in different parts of Bengal for permanent settlement instead of returning back after the purpose of their visit had been fulfilled. In the 14th century, Tekari Dutta, 12th in the lineage, moved from Bally to the Andul-Mohiary region of Howrah district after he was entrusted by Sultan Sikandar Shah (reign: 1358–1390) of the independent Bengal Sultanate with the charge of revenue collection of pargana Muzaffarpur; with the job-title 'Chowdhury'. Andul was then under the jurisdiction of this pargana. Zamindar Chowdhury Ramasharan Dutta, 17th in the lineage, started the family's autumnal Durga Puja in the 16th century, which continues to be annually celebrated in Andul. The illustrious Kolkata-based "Hatkhola Dutta Family" was the first major offshoot of the family around 1705 AD. This book adds more accurate information to the author's previously published books on his ancestry. Some sections contain Persian words with English translations, as Persian was the official language of administration during the Sultanate and Pathan rule in Bengal. Words in Bengali, and verses in Sanskrit, have been provided with English translations. Family Tree Charts show about 29 generations of ancestor and descendant names.
