Description

BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCE
Volume One
Anatomy & Physiology

PCC PRESS White Book Series

A thorough understanding of the human body is the foundation of every competent healthcare professional.

Basic Medical Science – Volume One is the first volume of the two-volume English edition of the official textbook used in the Basic Medical Sciences Certificate Program offered by PALMS Chiropractic College, Osaka, Japan.

This volume contains:

Part I – Anatomy
Part II – Physiology

The companion Volume Two contains Part III – Pathology and Part IV – Microbiology & Public Health. Together, the two volumes form the complete English edition of the Japanese textbook Basic Medical Science Manual (基礎医学マニュアル).

Unlike conventional medical textbooks, the White Book Series follows a unique integrated curriculum. Each subject is organized using an identical organ-system framework, allowing students to study the same chapter across multiple disciplines. For example, a chapter on the cardiovascular system progresses naturally from anatomy to physiology, and then continues in Volume Two with pathology and microbiology, providing a comprehensive understanding of each organ system rather than treating each subject as an isolated discipline.

Designed specifically for chiropractic students and manual therapy practitioners, this textbook emphasizes the essential medical sciences required for safe and effective clinical practice while remaining accessible to independent learners.

Features

• Comprehensive coverage of human anatomy and physiology

• Logical organ-system organization for integrated learning

• Written specifically for chiropractic and manual therapy education

• End-of-chapter summaries for rapid review

• Self-assessment questions to reinforce understanding

• Medical university–level Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) sections at the end of every chapter for examination preparation

• Ideal for self-study, classroom instruction, and professional review

Unlike traditional anatomy atlases, this textbook is intentionally text-based, focusing on conceptual understanding and systematic learning rather than extensive illustrations. It is designed to develop sound scientific knowledge that supports clinical reasoning and lifelong professional education.

Whether you are preparing for professional examinations, beginning your chiropractic education, or strengthening your foundation in the medical sciences, Basic Medical Science – Volume One provides a structured and academically rigorous approach to understanding the human body.

About the Authors

Jiro Yamahata, BCSc., is the founder of Palms Chiropractic College, Japan, established in 2003, an institution dedicated to the disciplined study and application of true chiropractic principles. A graduate of ITM Melbourne and ICC Japan, he holds a Bachelor of Chiropractic Science and is registered in Japan.

For more than a quarter of a century, he has engaged in the practical and philosophical pursuit of chiropractic, not merely as a method, but as a distinct science of life governed by laws that operate from above-down, inside-out. His work emphasizes precision, specificity, and the restoration of normal function through the correction of vertebral subluxation, rather than the treatment of disease itself.

Through decades of clinical practice and instruction, he has carried this message across Japan, India, Nepal, Malaysia, South Korea, Bangladesh, and Turkey, contributing to the advancement of chiropractic education and the cultivation of skilled practitioners. His teaching reflects a steadfast commitment to the foundational principles of the profession, harmonized with contemporary clinical understanding.

He continues to advocate for a chiropractic approach that does the least to achieve the most, honoring the inherent intelligence of the body while advancing the art, science, and philosophy of chiropractic for future generations.
