Description

PALMS-Integrated Neuro-Balance System (INBS)

Philosophy, Science and Art of Chiropractic

“Do the Least to Achieve the Most.”

The PALMS-Integrated Neuro-Balance System (INBS) is a comprehensive chiropractic framework integrating functional preparation, specific chiropractic analysis, Full-Spine Diversified Technique, and repeated clinical re-evaluation.

Developed by Jiro Yamahata, BCSc., INBS is built around a simple principle: every intervention should have a reason, and every meaningful intervention should be followed by re-evaluation.

Its clinical sequence is:

Evaluate → Prepare when indicated → Re-evaluate → Analyze → Adjust specifically → Re-evaluate → Decide.

INBS does not require every patient to receive the same sequence of procedures. Functional preparation is used only when muscular resistance, protective guarding, or another modifiable functional restriction interferes with examination, positioning, localization, or adjustment.

When indicated, Functional Indirect Release (FIR) and Post-Isometric Release (PIR) may be used before re-evaluation. If preparation is unnecessary, it is omitted. The chiropractic adjustment remains the principal corrective procedure within the system.

A major section of this textbook is devoted to Full-Spine Diversified Chiropractic Technique, including:

• Applied osteology and anatomical landmarks
• Chiropractic listings and directional terminology
• Examination and palpatory evaluation
• Patient and practitioner positioning
• Hand contacts and adjustive mechanics
• Localization, stabilization, preload, and line of drive
• Specific regional adjusting procedures
• Contraindications, precautions, and safety screening
• Re-evaluation and outcome assessment

Regional procedures include the occiput, upper and lower cervical spine, thoracic spine, ribs, lumbar spine, pelvis, sacrum, and upper and lower extremities.

INBS also explores chiropractic philosophy, vertebral subluxation, specificity, neuromechanical function, proprioception, muscular guarding, clinical reasoning, and the traditional relationship between Philosophy, Science and Art.

Full-Spine Chiropractic within INBS does not mean adjusting every spinal region at every visit. It means possessing the knowledge and technical ability to examine the entire spine while developing the restraint to leave alone what does not require intervention.

The system also distinguishes specific chiropractic adjustment from simply producing joint sound. Cavitation may occur, but success is determined through re-evaluation of the original clinical finding.

This textbook is therefore concerned not only with HOW to adjust, but with the more important questions:

What should be adjusted?
Why should it be adjusted?
When is preparation useful?
When is adjustment unnecessary?
When has enough already been accomplished?

Written for chiropractic students, practitioners, educators, and appropriately trained professionals studying chiropractic and related manual disciplines.

Evaluate carefully. Prepare only when necessary. Adjust specifically. Re-evaluate consistently. Do no more than the patient requires.

About the Authors

Jiro Yamahata, BCSc., is the founder of Palms Chiropractic College, Japan, established in 2003, an institution dedicated to the disciplined study and application of true chiropractic principles. A graduate of ITM Melbourne and ICC Japan, he holds a Bachelor of Chiropractic Science and is registered in Japan. For more than a quarter of a century, he has engaged in the practical and philosophical pursuit of chiropractic, not merely as a method, but as a distinct science of life governed by laws that operate from above-down, inside-out. His work emphasizes precision, specificity, and the restoration of normal function through the correction of vertebral subluxation, rather than the treatment of disease itself. Through decades of clinical practice and instruction, he has carried this message across Japan, India, Nepal, Malaysia, South Korea, Bangladesh, and Turkey, contributing to the advancement of chiropractic education and the cultivation of skilled practitioners. His teaching reflects a steadfast commitment to the foundational principles of the profession, harmonized with contemporary clinical understanding. He continues to advocate for a chiropractic approach that does the least to achieve the most, honoring the inherent intelligence of the body while advancing the art, science, and philosophy of chiropractic for future generations.
