About the Author

Prof. K.P. Mathew is a Retired Professor, Novelist, Dramatist, Writer, Filmmaker, Social Worker, and Environmental Activist.
He has penned and published more than a dozen novels, dramas, travelogues, and reminiscences in Malayalam, including 9/11, Theekkattiloode, Ottal, Ulkkanal, Hjuvalosinte Suvisesham, Aham Brahmasmi, Ettamathe Mahathbutham, Velicham Dhukhamanu, Oru Kuttinte Duram, Operation Love, and Varattar Neervattatha Ormakal. Novels translated into English include The Odd Spy, Shadow of Truth, Vrika Theo, The Unbroken Bond, Surviving the Storm, and The Odyssey of Angela. Those translated into Hindi include Ajeeb Jasus, Mizhavanam, and Sathyam Sivam Sundaram.
The novel Ottal won the KP Ummer Award, Ulkanal won the SK Pottakkatt Award, Gireesh Karnard Theatre Award, and Aham Brahmasmi won the Uroob Award. Won the 2023 Prem Nazir Award for the multitalented
Executive Producer of the feature film Vembanad, which won the State Award and has been screened at several international film festivals, scripted and produced several telefilms and documentaries, including Lost In Time, a documentary about the unique and strange forest kingdom in India. Conducted vast studies, a massive questionnaire survey, a river survey, a picture exhibition, documentary film shows, and awareness programs in the entire river basin of the Dead River Varattar. Gathered opinions of the scientists and prepared a vast project report to reclaim the dead river. The report was submitted to all ministries one after another, starting in 2006, then to the Human Rights Commission, and finally presented to the Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, which led to the river’s restoration in 2017.
Co-ordinator of the program “Ente Nadu” to gather the time-long heritage and history of Pathanamthitta District to publish the District Cultural Directory, which Pathanamthitta District Panchayat published. Won the State-wide “Palathully Award” of Malayala Manorama, a Citation of the Eco-Tourism Department, Government of Kerala, and the CEERD (Centre for Environmental Education and Rural Development) award for the valuable services towards the protection and conservation of the sustainable environment in Kerala.
