Ahaana, the fiery queen of Amaara, secretly hires a young surrogate to provide her with a child. They are both taken aback when instead of one baby, the surrogate delivers twin girls. Worried that her ruse will be discovered, Ahaana has one child sent away, to be raised by the reluctant surrogate and a warrior from her personal Guard. The other child is taken to the palace, where Ahaana begins a lifelong campaign to have her named the first female heir of Amaara.

But years later, when the young princess is to compete in a palace-wide hunt, Queen Ahaana has an idea — she decides to bring in her twin as a double to improve their chances of success. This one lie draws in more people than Ahaana intended, and sets both girls down an entirely different path.

Things come to a head when the Princess is called to embark on a dangerous journey that could change the fate of the country of Amaara.
