Description

During his four years as president of the United States, Donald Trump destroyed the reputation the country once had as a lodestar for nascent democracies around the world. The blunders he made and the lies he uttered not only made him the laughingstock of the world, but also caused considerable damage to the office of the U.S. presidency.

Though he ceased to be president after his defeat in the 2020 election, the danger he poses to the country, especially to its democratic institutions, is still there. He is the leading Republican candidate in this year's presidential election, and the possibility of his regaining the presidency cannot be ruled out.

In the unfortunate event of its happening, Prabhakaran wants to be able to say to himself that he had done his part to prevent it. This book is a testament to it, he says.

It is a collection of commentaries on articles about the lies and blunders of Donald Trump published in online version of The New York Times during the past few years. Prabhakaran expresses his gratitude to this great publication in the last line of his preface to the book: "I will forever be in The Times's debt."

About the Author

Most of his working life, M.P. Prabhakaran straddled two professions, journalism and teaching. He started his career in journalism, in 1969, as a cub reporter on Current, a weekly newspaper (now defunct) published from Bombay (later renamed Mumbai).

He then moved on, as a copy editor, to March of the Nation, another Bombay-based English weekly (also defunct now); and then to Free Press Journal, one of India’s leading English dailies.

After immigrating to the U.S. in 1975, he worked as an editor, first of The Voice of India, a monthly, and later, of South Asia Newsspecial, a news and feature syndicate.

Side by side with his work in journalism, he pursued a Ph.D. in Political Science, at The New School for Social Research, New York. After completing the Ph.D., in 1988, he taught for several years as an adjunct professor of political science, at the City University of New York.

Since 2001, Prabhakaran has been travelling extensively and posting his travel experience on The East-West Inquirer, an online monthly he started that year. The East-West Inquirer, published at www.eastwestinquirer.com, also carries his social and political commentaries.
