Description

Sri Krishna Leelas is a comprehensive literary retelling of the complete divine pastimes of Bhagavan Sri Krishna, from the cosmic moment He decides to descend to Earth through every phase of His earthly sojourn, to His final departure from the mortal world and the submersion of His golden city of Dwaraka beneath the western sea.

Spanning 39 chapters organized into seven books, this volume follows the life of Krishna age by age: the divine descent and miraculous birth in a prison cell; the enchanting infancy in the pastoral village of Gokula, where He slew demons with the ease of a child at play; the magical childhood in Vrindavana’s forests, where He bewildered the creator Brahma and danced on the hoods of the serpent Kaliya; the revolutionary boyhood in which He challenged the king of heaven and lifted a mountain on His little finger;
the heroic youth in which He slew the tyrant Kamsa and established the kingdom of Dwaraka; the majestic kingship during which He delivered the Bhagavad Gita and the Uddhava Gita; and the poignant final days culminating in His transcendental departure and the dawn of the age of Kali. What distinguishes this retelling is its multi-layered approach. Each Leela is presented not merely as narrative but as a convergence of four dimensions:

Narrative (Katha): A vivid, immersive retelling that brings the scriptural accounts to life with literary richness while remaining faithful to the original sources.

Philosophy (Tattva): The deeper philosophical teachings embedded in each episode — exploring concepts of dharma, karma, bhakti, surrender, and the nature of God drawn from Vedanta, Bhakti theology, and the commentaries of the great Acharyas.

Genealogy (Vamshaanucharita): Meticulous documentation of the
Yadu Vamsha, Chandra Vamsha, and related lineages, anchoring the
divine narrative in the Puranic genealogical framework.

Divine Mystery (Divyatva): The transcendental significance of each
Leela — what it reveals about the nature of God, the soul, the cosmos, and the path to liberation.

The book draws from the primary scriptural sources — Srimad
Bhagavatam (especially Skandhas 10 and 11), Vishnu Purana, Harivamsha, Mahabharata, Brahma Vaivarta Purana, and the Vedas and Upanishads — and is enriched by insights from the commentaries of Sridhara Swami, Vishwanatha Chakravarti,
Rupa Goswami, Vallabhacharya, Madhvacharya, and other luminaries of the Bhakti tradition. Sanskrit shlokas with simplified transliteration and English translation are interspersed throughout, allowing the reader to encounter the beauty of the original verses while accessing their meaning.

Sri Krishna Leelas is written for every reader — from the curious
newcomer encountering these stories for the first time to the practitioner seeking deeper layers of meaning in narratives they have known since childhood. It is a book to read, to contemplate, to return to, and ultimately, to love.

About the Author

M.V. Krishna Rao brings a unique perspective to the retelling of sacred scripture, combining the analytical rigor of a career engineer with a lifelong devotion to the spiritual traditions of Bharatavarsha and a deep respect for the literary art of storytelling.

A retired mechanical engineer with decades of experience in systematic problem-solving and detailed analysis, he has channeled his methodical approach toward exploring the vast, multi-layered tapestry of Krishna’s divine pastimes as recorded in the Srimad Bhagavatam, Vishnu Purana, Harivamsha, and other authoritative Vedic and Puranic texts. The same precision and attention to detail that characterized his engineering profession now serves a different purpose: tracing genealogical lineages across Puranic records, cross-referencing scriptural accounts between multiple source texts, and organizing 39 chapters of divine narrative into a coherent seven-volume structure that follows the chronological arc of Krishna’s earthly sojourn.

Following a successful engineering career, Krishna Rao discovered his passion for writing, initially focusing on science fiction and personal finance. His published works span a remarkably eclectic range — from imaginative fiction to practical guides on saving and investing — demonstrating a versatility that serves him well in the present work, where vivid narrative must coexist with philosophical exposition, where the poetry of Sanskrit shlokas must sit alongside systematic theological analysis.

However, it was the call of the scriptures that drew him to his most
ambitious literary undertaking. A growing awareness that the profound treasures of the Srimad Bhagavatam remained inaccessible to many contemporary readers — locked behind archaic language, scattered across commentaries in multiple traditions, or diluted in oversimplified retellings — inspired an intensive multi-year study of Krishna’s Leelas in their full depth. Sri Krishna Leelas represents the culmination of this devoted research: a work that draws from the primary scriptural sources and the
commentaries of great Acharyas including Sridhara Swami, Vishwanatha Chakravarti, Rupa Goswami, Vallabhacharya, and Madhvacharya, presenting them in a literary retelling that is faithful to the originals while being genuinely accessible to the modern reader.

His approach to sacred narrative reflects both scholarly discipline and personal devotion. Each Leela in this volume is treated not merely as a story to be enjoyed but as a convergence of four dimensions — narrative, philosophy, genealogy, and divine mystery — applying the structural thinking of an engineer to the interconnected theological systems that underpin Krishna’s pastimes. His storytelling experience, honed across multiple genres, illuminates the human and emotional dimensions of these divine episodes, ensuring that the reader encounters not just information but transformation.

Krishna Rao’s diverse body of published work includes:

Fiction: The Eternal Hunt, Let Us Go to The Moon, Avleen’s Gold

Personal Finance: The Art of Saving Money, The Art of Investing
Money, The Art of Living Wealthy, Principle of Pipelines

Scriptures: Bhagavadgita Vachanamu (Telugu), The Characters of Epic Mahabharata (Volumes 1–4), Srimad Bhagavadgita English prose (Volume -5)

Wellness: Works on public health and metabolic science – Obesity the Global epidemic

Meditation: The Inner Architect

Currently residing in Hyderabad with his spouse, Krishna Rao continues his exploration of Vedic literature and Indian philosophical traditions. His retirement has afforded him the time and freedom to pursue this passion project with the thoroughness and devotion that sacred literature demands. Having already produced a four-volume study of the Mahabharata’s characters and a Telugu & English rendering of the Bhagavad Gita, this comprehensive retelling of Krishna’s Leelas represents
the natural culmination of a literary journey that has been moving toward Vrindavana all along.

This work reflects not only scholarly research but also a personal journey of devotion — demonstrating how the eternal stories of Sri Krishna continue to illuminate, transform, and enchant across all ages and all backgrounds, offering guidance on the perennial human quest for meaning, love, and the Divine.
