Description

PHARMACEUTICAL JURISPRUDENCE: A Comprehensive Companion is an examination-focused textbook designed for B.Pharm, Pharm.D and D.Pharm students to understand pharmaceutical law, professional ethics and regulatory requirements in a structured and systematic manner.

The book is mapped to the relevant PCI curriculum, including BP606T Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence under the NEP 2020-aligned B.Pharm Syllabus 2026, 3.4 Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence under the Pharm.D Regulations 2008, and ER20-26T Pharmacy Law and Ethics under the D.Pharm ER 2020 curriculum.

The book presents pharmaceutical jurisprudence through 13 systematically organized units covering pharmaceutical legislations, professional ethics, the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules, Pharmacy Act, Medicinal and Toilet Preparations Act, NDPS Act, Poisons Act, Insecticides Act, Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, Essential Commodities Act, DPCO, National Drug Policy, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, Consumer Protection Act, patents and designs, Right to Information Act, prescription and non-prescription products, and the D.Pharm Completion Supplement.

Special emphasis is given to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945, including important definitions, schedules, regulatory authorities, import, manufacture, sale, labelling, licensing, inspections, offences and penalties, medical devices, cosmetics, nutraceuticals, biosimilars, CDSCO, Indian Pharmacopoeia and pharmacovigilance.

The content is presented in an examination-oriented format with clearly structured questions, marks-based classification, detailed answers, AT-A-GLANCE sections, comparison tables, practical explanations, statutory references and rapid-recall resources. Important legal concepts are explained in easy academic English while retaining statutory terminology wherever required for accuracy.

The book also uses narrative explanations such as “THE STORY IN ONE PARAGRAPH” to help students understand how different provisions of law work in practical situations. The STUDENT MEMORY RULE provides a simple approach to learning jurisprudence: understand what the law does first, then focus on the important section, rule and form numbers highlighted throughout the book.

The appendices provide additional revision support through a Compact Glossary, Statutory Index, Rapid-Recall Sheets and a structured reference to the Schedules under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945.

This book is intended for systematic classroom learning, self-study, examination preparation and rapid revision. It can also serve as a useful academic reference for pharmacy educators involved in teaching pharmaceutical jurisprudence.

Whether used for B.Pharm, Pharm.D or D.Pharm, this book provides a structured way to study pharmaceutical law and ethics, connect statutory provisions with their practical significance, and prepare effectively for university examinations.
