Description
The ear, nose, and throat (ENT) system represents one of the most intricate and interconnected
anatomical regions in human physiology, serving critical functions in hearing, balance, respiration,
olfaction, and communication. As healthcare continues to evolve toward more specialized and patient
centered approaches, the role of nursing professionals in managing ENT disorders has become
increasingly sophisticated and essential. This chapter provides a comprehensive examination of the
nursing management principles for patients presenting with various disorders affecting the ear, nose,
and throat structures.
The significance of ENT nursing management extends beyond basic patient care to encompass complex
assessment techniques, advanced therapeutic interventions, patient education, and rehabilitation
protocols. Modern healthcare statistics indicate that approximately 15-20% of all primary care visits
involve ENT-related complaints, with hearing impairment alone affecting over 466 million people
worldwide according to the World Health Organization. The complexity of these conditions requires
nurses to possess not only fundamental anatomical and physiological knowledge but also specialized
clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis support, and comprehensive care planning.
