Description

Most fashion brands don't have a product problem. They have a decision problem.

What should you buy? How much? Which trends are worth betting on, and which products deserve more depth while others get left behind?

The Buying Manifesto is Nikita Menon's answer to those questions, built from a decade inside fashion buying and merchandising at Trent/Zudio, FirstCry, and Future Group. It's not a framework delivered from a distance. Range architecture explained through the range built at 3am in an airport that sold through at 95%. Hero products explained through the styles that proved themselves before anyone backed them.

Twenty-two chapters, each built around a real decision rather than a rule, make the case for slowing down at the planning stage, before the calendar and the deadline start making decisions for you.

This book is for fashion founders, buyers, merchandisers, and anyone responsible for deciding what a fashion business should sell.

Inside, you'll find how to:

Build a range with intention instead of simply filling a product calendar
Understand what your customer actually needs from your assortment
Separate the trends worth betting on from the noise
Identify a hero product before the market forces you to guess
Balance creativity, commerciality, and customer relevance
Make sharper decisions when the data doesn't give you the full answer
Think about depth, breadth, and risk as one strategic decision, not three separate ones
Build a product strategy that supports the business, not just the next collection
The goal isn't to predict fashion perfectly. It's to make better decisions before you commit your money, inventory, and time.

Whether you're building a brand, managing a buying team, or trying to become a sharper buyer yourself, The Buying Manifesto gives you the questions worth asking before you commit to what goes on the rack, and why.

About the Author

Nikita Menon is a fashion buyer, writer and consultant with over a decade of experience in fashion retail. She has worked across companies including Trent, FirstCry and Future Group, building and reviewing womenswear and kidswear ranges and learning, often the hard way, what makes a collection work commercially.

After stepping away from corporate life to travel and write, she returned to the question she had been thinking about for years: why do some collections work while others don't? The Buying Manifesto is her attempt to answer it, through the decisions, mistakes, principles and stories that sit behind a successful range.
