Re: The Maverick Migrant

Self made man N C Saha (for us Saha Kaku) in this autobiographical book takes us through his journey of being born in pre-partition India in a wealthy family, then going through difficult times migrating to India from Bangladesh, after a childhood in Nabadwip, moving out to Mumbai and making that as his Karma Bhumi for the rest of his life. Joined Central Railway after few small time assignments in Bombay, as it was called those days and retired from Railways in a senior position. Artist at heart and a great organizer of socio-cultural programmes, led the Ulhasnagar Kali Bari as President for several years which saw tremendous development during his leadership. After retirement started a Walking Club that grew to have large memberships - a true maverick in every sense. The book is also about his friendships, about his children and their family, all of whom are well placed, the travels that he took and the celebrations of his life. Written in a simple narrative the book would be of interest to all who wants to have a glimpse of the partition era, the way it impacted lives and how some overcame those difficult times to make a unique place for themselves.

The Maverick Migrant is an autobiography written in simple english for everybody. The book takes you through an era of India of the pre-independence days,in undivided Bengal, where Sahakaku was born and spent his childhood, along with pictures and stories of that time, as well as his stories and struggles on his journey to make a living in a big metropolitan city of Bombay-as Mumbai was then known-where he lives presently. Secret of his good health and happiness at such an advanced age of 80+ is discovered as you read and enjoy the book. A must read.

Candid Crisp Photo-Studded

India is a land of endless possibilities, varied relationships, and continuous ups and downs. Those born before independence exhibit a foresight, toughness, and endurance that can be a lighthouse for the present generation.

Saha Uncle has presented his life with remarkable candidness, and such an account is actually repeated in most homes in the Indian sub-continent. It thus serves as a practical guide to what to expect in a middle class family. Its trials and tribulations can also serve as a case study for use by B -Schools and Management Institutes.
