About the Author

Sri Paban Bordoloi is one of Northeast India’s foremost exponents and venerated maestros of Indian classical percussion. Born in North Lakhimpur, Assam, Sri Bordoloi began his musical journey steeped in the Sattriya traditions, mastering the Khol before dedicating his life to the Tabla.

He pursued his advanced musical education in Lucknow under the tutelage of legendary maestros including Ustad Munne Khan, Ustad Afaq Hussain Khan, and Pandit Ranganath Mishra, earning his prestigious title of ‘Sangeet Nipun’ in 1978. Demonstrating exceptional artistic mastery from an early age, he famously accompanied the cultural icon Dr. Bhupen Hazarika at just fifteen years old. Over an illustrious career, he has shared the stage with a galaxy of classical luminaries, providing seasoned accompaniment to icons such as Vidushi Girija Devi, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, the Singh Bandhu, Pandit Rakesh Chaurasia, and Pandits Rajan and Sajan Mishra.. He went on to become the sole Top-Grade Tabla Artist recognized by All India Radio across the entire northeastern region.

Over a distinguished career spanning several decades, Sri Bordoloi has performed at leading national and international music conferences, served on the prestigious Central Audition Board (CAB), New Delhi, and acted as an official Observer at the All India Tabla Mahotsav.
