Description

About This Book
This book examines the possible relationship between the Indus (Ha-rappan) civilization and the early Tamil settlement of Keezhadi. It brings together published evidence from archaeology, ancient DNA, linguistics, and environmental research.
The dates and interpretations of genetic evidence in this book are based on the cited publications. New excavations and studies may re-fine them. The illustrations are explanatory diagrams. Unless a figure is expressly identified as an excavation photograph or a map drawn to scale, it should not be treated as an original field record or a scale map.
The aim of this book is scientific clarity. It does not promote any po-litical, religious, or ethnic position. Its guiding principle is to distin-guish what the evidence shows, what it does not show, and what re-mains unknown.
THEMES
• The power of scientific archaeology
• The richness of South Asian civilizations
• Scientific honesty
• A global comparative view

About the Author

About the Author
Dr. Perumal Pugazhendhi is a scientist, inventor, and researcher whose work spans several fields. He has more than forty years of experience in energy technology, materials science, electrochemical systems, nan-otechnology, fuel cells, batteries, and applied engineering. He has led or contributed to scientific and technical projects supported by NASA, the US Department of Energy, the US Department of Defense, the US Air Force, and the US Army.
Alongside his work in science and engineering, he has a lasting inter-est in Tamil history, archaeology, and the growth of civilizations. New finds at Keezhadi raised questions for him about the age of Tamil civi-lization, the growth of towns, writing, technology, and cultural conti-nuity. They were a major reason he wrote this book.
Tamil language and literature have long been recognized for their richness. Excavations at Keezhadi add material evidence to the world described in ancient texts. They invite us to ask whether the cities, trade, crafts, and social lives in Sangam poetry reflect communities that once lived along these rivers.
The author approaches these questions as a scientist, not as an ar-chaeologist. What does the evidence show, and what does it leave open? How do archaeology, linguistics, genetics, environmental re-search, and literature relate to one another? Evidence, observation, comparison, and critical thought guide his approach.
Did Harappa Become Keezhadi? was written to introduce readers to the findings, arguments, and unanswered questions surrounding a possible Harappa–Keezhadi connection, not to claim that one civiliza-tion has been proved to descend directly from the other. It examines the question in light of archaeological findings, ancient DNA, writing systems, Tamil literature, and comparisons with other civilizations.
The author believes Keezhadi has opened a new chapter in the study of Tamil history. Many questions remain unanswered. Future excava-tions, improved scientific methods, and work across disciplines may bring a clearer understanding. He hopes students, researchers, and general readers will take part in that continuing search.
For a scientist, the history of Tamil civilization is an open inquiry shaped by evidence and new research. This book is an invitation to join that inquiry.
