Open-graded asphalt concrete (OGAC), open-graded friction course (OGFC), and permeable asphalt are all terms used to describe porous asphalt pavement.
It was decided to use parking lots with porous asphalt pavement to reduce storm water runoff from new constructions. Several authorities are considerably changing the storm water discharge rules for projects in response to current concerns about water quality, streambed erosion from development overflow, and the requirement to refill essential subterranean reservoirs. Storm water management in porous asphalt surfaces is now made easier for developers and managers thanks to a new instrument in their arsenal. These pavements, which are frequently found in parking spaces, allow water to pass through the sidewalk surface, drain into a stone recharge bed, and then infiltrate into the soils below the pavement. Since the middle of the 1970s, these pavements have demonstrated their value, and subsequent modifications to storm water rules have encouraged several professional engineers and public works officials to learn more about them.
