Prof. Raj Shree Dhar (M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D. in Mathematics) is an academic, mathematician, and educational administrator from Jammu & Kashmir, India. She served as Principal in the Higher Education Department of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir and has also held the position of Dean at Cluster University of Jammu. With over 25 years of teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and more than 12 years of academic administrative experience, she has made significant contributions to higher education.
Prof. Dhar completed her M.Phil. in Mathematics in 1986 with the dissertation titled “Location of the Zeros of the Polynomials in Complex Variables” and earned her Ph.D. in Mathematics from University of Jammu in 1995 on the topic “Shared Values and Differential Polynomials of Entire and Meromorphic Functions.” She holds the distinction of being among the earliest women scholars in the region to earn a Ph.D. in Mathematics, and notably, the second female in the state to complete a Ph.D. from a university in Jammu & Kashmir.
She began her teaching career in 1987 at the Centre for Advanced Studies in Educational Technology (CASET), Karan Nagar, Srinagar, where she taught postgraduate mathematics to school teachers. In 1988, she was appointed as Lecturer at Vishwa Bharti Women’s College, Rainawari, Srinagar, and in 1991, she was selected as Lecturer in the Higher Education Department of J&K Government.
Throughout her career, Prof. Dhar has actively organized and contributed to numerous academic workshops, conferences, and institutional activities. She has served as convener and member of various academic and administrative committees and has been recognized for her contributions with the Certificate of Efficiency (2004) and the Best Teacher Award (2008). She also played a key role in the establishment of the J&K Institute of Mathematical Sciences (JKIMS) under the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.
An engaging communicator and mentor, she has been invited as a resource person at various academic forums and has delivered talks through radio and television channels to promote awareness about careers in Mathematics. Her scholarly contributions include research publications in national and international journals, as well as the guidance of research scholars.
Prof. Dhar is also a prolific writer who contributes to local dailies on topics such as the importance of Mathematics, Astronomy, Astrology, and educational reforms. Her notable publications include An Inquiry into the Evolution of Mathematics, Gateway to Complex Analysis, A Rendezvous with Education, and NEP-2020: Conception of a Modern Knowledge Society. She has also served as an editor for newsletters and research journals of the Higher Education Department, J&K.
