Before ascending to the revered position of the Second Guru of the Sikhs, Shri Guru Angad Sahib Ji was known as Bhai Lehna Ji. Born on the 31st of March, 1505, in the quaint village of Harike in Punjab’s Ferozpur district, his early life was steeped in simplicity and devotion.
Bhai Lehna Ji’s father, Pheru Ji, was a humble yet diligent businessman, navigating the challenges of the trade with integrity. His mother, Mata Ramo Ji, also known by several other endearing names such as Mata Sabhirai, Mansa Devi, and Daya Kaur, played a pivotal role in shaping his spiritual inclinations and moral foundation.
The lineage of Bhai Lehna Ji was marked by the profound presence of his grandfather, Baba Narayan Das Trehan, whose ancestral home was located at Matte-di-Sari near Mukatsar. In the twilight years of his life, Baba Narayan Das Trehan returned to this ancestral abode, grounding the family in its rich heritage and traditions.
Bhai Lehna Ji’s upbringing in a devout Hindu household deeply influenced his spiritual journey. His mother’s devoutness and teachings left an indelible mark on his soul, leading him to become an ardent worshiper of Goddess Durga, a central figure in Hindu mythology. This early devotion and the values instilled in him during his formative years laid the foundation for his eventual path towards spiritual greatness and leadership.
