Rama Nāma Lekhana, or writing the name of Lord Rāma, is a gentle way of remembering Him. It is a form of nāma japa and mānasa pūjā—a worship that happens within the mind.
Among the many ways of worship, chanting the name of God is considered one of the purest. Writing the name of one’s chosen deity is another such sacred practice, where devotion flows through the hand.
The act of writing naturally brings the mind back to the present moment. As the name is written again and again, the practice begins to resemble meditation.
With a few minutes of attentive writing, the mind settles, and a quiet sense of ease begins to emerge.
My personal experience has been this.
After having written the name of Rāma and also Bhagavad Gītā verses, I felt a deep sense of fulfilment—along with the feeling of grace and inner strength. I felt supported, as though Lord Rāma was walking quietly besides me.
So begin without hesitation.
Write without measuring.
Write for as long as the mind stays with Rāma.
श्री राम
