It all started with a phone call.
And as if the stress of her looming finals wasn’t enough, strange things started to happen to her—a single recurring dream, headaches, nosebleeds, visions. Nix Ryder didn’t think much about it. That is, until she met Nick, who claimed to have the same symptoms but knew a little something about all the weird crap happening in her life.
Now, naturally, Nix does not believe the voice on that phone call when it says her Dad is alive because Gerard Ryder has been dead for seven months. Seven long and difficult months, they had been for her. However, circumstances forced her to believe it was true and that she was the only one who could save her old man. And she had to be quick about it.
According to Nick, they were supposed to go on a quest, and even after laughing about it for a good few minutes, Nix still found it ridiculous. However, that didn’t make it any less true. Every time she tried to oppose the motion or get in the way in any sense, her symptoms worsened. Frustratingly enough, Nick happened to be right. They went on a quest, alright, even roped a few friends into helping.
The group decided on a date to start the quest after their finals were over because school is important, and apparently missing assessments for a quest in another dimension was not a valid excuse. Although the problem with the ‘excuse’ was more about the believability than with the actual importance. Disappointing all the same.
The day came closer and closer. Everything was set in motion, but the people in that other dimension could not care less. They kidnapped Nix’s childhood best friend, Cage. Everyone adored Cage. So, there went the week off they took for themselves. They dropped everything and left to find Cage. And, of course, ultimately her father.
Nobody could’ve ever imagined what they came across. They travelled through portals into impossible worlds filled with ancient forests, kingdoms, and sprawling palaces. While they were at it, the group met new people, animals, and, um, creatures. And all of this, all the trouble, was the fault of one person and one person only. It was someone Nix never would’ve imagined. She was forced to stand in front of someone whom she could’ve never imagined anything ill of. Time was running out; Nix had already lost a lot, so she had to end this person she once trusted and get her dad back home safely.
