Religion has been one of the most influential forces in the history of human civilization. It shapes
beliefs, values, identities, social institutions, cultural traditions, and political developments. In
India, religion occupies a particularly significant place because the subcontinent has been home to
some of the world's oldest religious traditions while also serving as a meeting ground for numerous
faiths that arrived from different parts of the globe. This long history of interaction has produced a
rich and complex religious landscape characterized by diversity, coexistence, adaptation, debate,
and transformation.
