Who was Shirdi Sai Baba?
A Hindu saint? A Muslim fakir? A spiritual master? A miracle worker? Or God living quietly among ordinary people?
Sai Baba refused to answer that question in the manner the world expected. He arrived in Shirdi without a known biography, lived in a mosque, spoke of Allah, accepted Hindu worship and moved effortlessly across the religious boundaries that human beings considered permanent.
He could be gentle and compassionate, yet also angry, demanding and impossible to predict. He asked devotees for money but accumulated no wealth. He possessed almost nothing, yet powerful people surrendered their decisions to him. Again and again, visitors discovered that the mysterious fakir seemed to know their private thoughts, forgotten promises and distant troubles.
SAI: The God Who Refused to Explain Himself strips away the marble temples, golden crowns and mythology accumulated over a century to rediscover the living Sai of Shirdi: the fakir beside the dhuni, responding differently to every person who approached him.
This is not merely a book about miracles or religious identity. It is an intimate literary meditation on faith, patience, surrender and the inexplicable relationship between Sai and those who turn to him.
You may not completely understand Sai.
But you may finish this book feeling that Sai understands you.
