Description

A tigress walks seven kilometres in forty-six-degree heat, refuses the first bite of her own kill, and carries it home to cubs she has not seen in four days.

A mother sloth bear, a fraction of the weight of the tiger that has wandered into her patch, rises on her hind legs and holds her ground.

An elephant matriarch leads her herd to water she remembers from a season no one else does.

None of them read a leadership book.
None of them needed to.

Masters of the Wild: Discovering Leadership Through Wild Intelligence was born of thousands of hours spent observing animals across the forests and grasslands of India, East Africa, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, and more than three decades spent leading people, businesses, and large-scale operations.

Tigers, cheetahs, wild dogs, leopards, crocodiles, buffalo, hippos, rhinos, lions, elephants, sloth bears, and hyenas become twelve extraordinary masterclasses in courage, restraint, teamwork, authority, protection, resilience, and legacy.

But this is not a business book dressed in animal metaphors.

It is a deeply personal journey between two worlds: the forest and the workplace. From one encounter to the next, the author discovers that many of the questions leaders struggle with today have existed in the wild for millions of years. When should strength be used? When should it be restrained? How does a team move as one? What earns authority? What survives after the leader is gone?

The animals offer no frameworks and make no speeches. They live.

And therein lies their intelligence.

Masters of the Wild is for leaders, managers, entrepreneurs, professionals, and anyone who believes that leadership is learned not only from books and classrooms, but from experience, observation, failure, reflection, and the courage to keep learning.

The forest has been running its lessons for far longer than we have been building classrooms.

This is an invitation to listen.

Masters of the Wild is the second book in the What the Wild Never Forgot trilogy, following Nara-Simha: What the Forest Never Forgot About Being Human.

About the Author

Ujjwal Majumder has spent much of his life between two worlds.

For more than three decades, he has led large businesses, operations, teams, and transformations for global organisations. His professional journey has taken him through the realities of leadership that rarely make it into management books: growth and failure, difficult decisions, transformation, uncertainty, responsibility, and the human consequences of choices made from the leader’s chair.

The other half of his education happened far from meeting rooms.

As a wildlife photographer and lifelong observer of the wild, Ujjwal has spent thousands of hours in the forests and grasslands of India, East Africa, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. Camera in hand, he learned to wait, watch, and notice what animals reveal simply by living in accordance with instincts and intelligence refined over millions of years.

Over time, the two worlds began to speak to each other.

The leader began recognising things in the forest.
The wildlife observer began questioning things in the boardroom.

That intersection became his writing.

Ujjwal is the author of Nara-Simha: What the Forest Never Forgot About Being Human and Masters of the Wild: Discovering Leadership Through Wild Intelligence, the first two books in the What the Wild Never Forgot trilogy.

He describes himself simply as an Observer of Two Worlds.
