A Poetry Collection to Cherish!

The book is full of strong, memorable poems that stick with readers like a friend.

Some of the poems, "When night falls" - reveals the element of total trust and surrender in love - I loved this one and not to mention others lke- And nothing short of that!, Nothing happens....

Others provide solace and finding moments of light within the darkness.

Getting English poetry published in this age is a tough one - they are simple yet deep with varying meanings. Should be read, enjoyed and savoured by all generations.

Mannequin of our times by VK

The poetry seems to be coming straight from the poet’s heart with a firm grip on the language. Despite the personal touch it has a very universal and identifiable ring to it. A must read

Commendabke Collection of poems

Mannequin of Our Times

It is indeed a very engaging collection of poems. The poet laureate, Vandana Kumar's anthology brings to mind strong images, memories, feelings, and intimacy among other things.

The poems deal with varied subjects ranging from supermarkets, rail bridges, runways to Mannequin in an apparel stores. She intertwines these motley collection of most commonplace things into evoking great imageries and feelings. Her use of metaphors ate quite commendable.

Some poems are sociopolitical commentaries of contemporary events as well.

Highly recommended.

Poems that expose the shallowness of our relationships and the dishonesty of our social commitment.

A poem is an unsung song. Its melody is in its imagery and metaphors. Its rhythm is in the way it taps on our emotions. The ambience to which it transports us is its orchestra. "Mannequins of Our Times", the debut anthology of Vandana's poems, is rich in its melody and inventive in its rhythm, backed by a rebellious orchestra.
"Mannequins of Our Times" on page 32, mildly worded to a fault and with a façade of innocence, exposes the fascism that is in the making and the police state that is already there in the Kashmir valley.
Vandana is also a cinephile, whose film reviews are sharp, incisive and exploratory. Her poems have the habit of setting the tone brilliantly, like a good movie, in the first few lines, and playing in the grey area between the shadow and light. "Mannequins of Our Times" is a powerful literary washing machine that would sanitise us, the readers, and cleanse our minds of the dirt of prejudices and lazy feel-good notions.

Mannequin of Our Times by VK

It was such a emotional delight to go through the poems one by one... and feel the vividness and nuances of life so beautifully intertwined in the words and expressions, laced with richness and substance that the life - experiences and thought processes are all about.
Happy reading to all.

A Very Layered Collection

It is very difficult to keep the language simple but the meaning profound. The poet manages to do just that.

A Splendid Collection

Mannequin of our times has something in it for everyone in the sheer range of poetry even as the overall arc is pain, pathos and acerbic observations of these dystopian times. Humorous poems have their deeper layered observations even as they make you smile. The feminist poetry too is subtle and not in your face. An absolute must have in your personal collection.

Chronicler of Our Times

Mannequin of Our Times has that simple, searing quality that the Poet herself carries, embedded in her words. It has the stamp of someone who understands Pain but is not engulfed by it, nor defeated. In fact, is somewhat amused by its repeated recurrence in daily life. The choice of words, the metre, the imagery, the context, all of it evoke such a vivid picture of a Time that underlines that change maybe eternal but transformation is a choice. Have we then been the Mannequins of that shift? Or has the Pandemic been the Mannequin of our non choice? These allegorical pieces of Poetry may just be your answer.
